Wipers - Better Off Dead

This is the first Wipers 7" from 1978 on Greg Sage's own Trap Records.  It has always blown my mind that these tracks weren't included in the Wipers CD box set, or any of the vinyl reissues, but they were instead only re-released on the History Of Portland Punk cd.  Like many contemporary punk and hardcore records of its time, they pressed a certain amount of records, but printed a smaller number of covers.  This resulted in one pressing of the record (although I don't know how may) and two cover variations.

The first version of the cover from 1978 was black, red and yellow, and featured liner notes on the inside.

My copy has the second version of the cover from 1979, which is simply orange and black, and unfortunately doesn't contain any liner notes on the inside.

They recorded this 7" on a 4 track, which gives the record a raw vibe that really puts these tracks over the top for me.  I wanted to completely maintain the integrity of the original recording, so I didn't re-master these tracks at all.

Backside Disaster - The Coming Of Iad Urorobos [demo 1997]

Backside Disaster's second demo recording from November of 1997.  Forgive is the only track that was re-recorded from the first, unreleased demo a few months prior.  The new songs contained on this demo were much heavier and guitar harmonies were becoming much more prevalent.  

I'm not sure how many cassettes were made in total, but only the first 25 or 30 came with the handmade lyric booklet, which I fully scanned and included in the download.  This conversion also comes directly from the master DAT, and I gave it a slight remaster.

Although I can't remember for sure, I believe these tapes were first made available at the Final Destination fest at Stage 4, which they were added to after the flyer below had already made the rounds.

Naked Violence - Demo 1991

Naked Violence spent a good 13 years (1991-2004) supplying Portland with offensive hardcore punk.  This is their five track demo tape from 1991, which contains four originals and a Dayglo Abortions cover.

Savior - Exploitation [1995]

The Exploitation full length, released in 1995 via Fan Records out of Poland was to be the last hurrah for Savior.  Unfortunately, the label only ever sent the band 4 copies and then was never heard from again.  However, I was recently able to track one down and import it, bringing the United States' total copies up to at least 5.

Savior bang out 10 tracks of death/thrash that showcase their consistently heavier progression really well.  Then, much like the Face Of Adversity tape, there are a few tracks from Savior's side punk band, Dickfinger.  At the request of the band, though, one of those Dickfinger tracks has been left out of this download.  But, this is a Savior full length that probably hasn't been heard by many people even in their hometown, so download it and crank it!

Backside Disaster - Demo 1997 [unreleased]

On New Year's Eve of 1996, National Guard offically became Backside Disaster at Thee O, and roughly six months later in 1997, they recorded this first demo.  However, they never actually released the demo, and it has been lying dormant on a DAT tape for the last 16 years.  This demo provides a much better link between the sounds of National Guard, and the more complex riffs that would show up in later Backside Disaster songs.

There are six tracks on the demo, and people that attended early Backside Disaster shows might remember such songs as "Payback" and "Nourishment".  Of the six tracks, only one was re-recorded for the second demo in November of 1997.

Without further ado, here is the first, unreleased Backside Disaster demo; remastered from the original master DAT tape.

Shai Hulud - 8/15/98 @ Stage 4 Theater

In 1998, Florida's Shai Hulud came to Portland for the first time with Overcast and Disembodied, and they all played at the Stage 4 Theater.  The show was originally set to be at 17 Nautical Miles, but it got moved a couple weeks prior, and it's a good thing it did, because there's no way everyone would have fit into that tiny venue.  Unfortunately, video of Overcast and Disembodied from that night are lost forever, as the master copies got destroyed when the original filmer's basement flooded.  But I still had the Shai Hulud set on VHS, and here it is.
