Toxic - Rise of Soldiers [1987]

 

Not much info can be found about Toxic out of Newberg, but it appears they were friends and played shows with Vengentz out of the same area. Seven tracks total of hard rock/heavy metal here on this tape from 1987 with a few chunky riffs and the occasional twin guitar harmonies to keep things interesting.

Dead Conspiracy - Demo 1987 [instrumental rough mix]

A friend recently gave me most of his old stockpile of cassettes, and amidst the mix tapes, my interest piqued when I saw "Dead Conspiracy - demo rough mix". When I queued the tape up, what I found was a primarily instrumental rough mix of the 1987 demo, but if you listen closely, you can hear a vocal track buried in the mix. Give it a listen to hear how this legendary demo took shape.

Northwest Hardcore compilation

As indicated by the name, this compilation encompasses the entire Northwest, as opposed to just Portland, but there are plenty of Portland bands on here, and it was released via the Portland based label, Media Blitz.  Ranging from well known bands to the obscure, there are a total of 28 music tracks from:

Angry Samoans / Youth Of Today

It's really pretty hard to imagine Angry Samoans and Youth Of Today playing on the same show, but it happened in 1987 at Satyricon.

Speed Weenie - Demo 1987

I always heard the name, Speed Weenie, tossed around when I was younger.  In school, I knew a kid who always claimed that his older brother used to hang out at the Death House, and we would talk about how cool that place must have been and how we wished it was still around for us to thrash around at.  Over the years, it seems as if Speed Weenie is one of the band names that became synonymous with the Death House, but aside from the folklore I picked up from other people my age that missed the boat on Speed Weenie by a couple of years, information seems to be scarce.  Try to do a google search for Speed Weenie, and you'll be met with pretty much nothing but Urban Dictionary entries.

For those unaware, Speed Weenie played some blazing speed metal with a bit of a crossover vibe.

Here is their studio demo from 1987.  I'm not sure if there was ever a cover, but my tape doesn't have one, so you get a scan of the actual tape instead.

I also have a 1989 demo tape that will eventually make its way up here, but I have no clue if they released anything else.  However, I do know that Speed Weenie's singer, Aaron Rider, also sang for Shitfinger, and their drummer, Jeff Roper-Witt, later played drums in Wreck Creation.
