The Portland of today feels like a far different city than it was when I was growing up here. A time before hip kids with trust funds decided to move here en masse to prove to us all just how individual they are. A time when seeing someone with a studded belt meant that I could probably engage in a discussion with them about Poison Idea or Resist. A time when it wasn't rare to see a hesher walking the streets of lower Southeast Portland that you could talk thrash metal with. Portland used to have that heavy feel of a working class town with dark undertones just below the surface that some might claim was the result of such an overcast and rainy city.
The Portland that I grew up in produced some truly great bands that stretch throughout all sub-genres of metal, hardcore and punk. It's my goal to document these bands and their releases so that they are never forgotten in the digital age. As I undertake this task, I hope that some readers will feel compelled to make suggestions, feed me contact info for members of long gone bands and interact with one another via the Facebook page and the message board. Let's share information and stories about the bands that made this great city have a dynamic underground music scene.
There is also a page labeled 'seeking', which is a list of various items that I'm attempting to collect for future posting on this site.
