Backside Disaster - The Coming Of Iad Urorobos [demo 1997]

Backside Disaster's second demo recording from November of 1997.  Forgive is the only track that was re-recorded from the first, unreleased demo a few months prior.  The new songs contained on this demo were much heavier and guitar harmonies were becoming much more prevalent.  

I'm not sure how many cassettes were made in total, but only the first 25 or 30 came with the handmade lyric booklet, which I fully scanned and included in the download.  This conversion also comes directly from the master DAT, and I gave it a slight remaster.

Although I can't remember for sure, I believe these tapes were first made available at the Final Destination fest at Stage 4, which they were added to after the flyer below had already made the rounds.

Backside Disaster - Demo 1997 [unreleased]

On New Year's Eve of 1996, National Guard offically became Backside Disaster at Thee O, and roughly six months later in 1997, they recorded this first demo.  However, they never actually released the demo, and it has been lying dormant on a DAT tape for the last 16 years.  This demo provides a much better link between the sounds of National Guard, and the more complex riffs that would show up in later Backside Disaster songs.

There are six tracks on the demo, and people that attended early Backside Disaster shows might remember such songs as "Payback" and "Nourishment".  Of the six tracks, only one was re-recorded for the second demo in November of 1997.

Without further ado, here is the first, unreleased Backside Disaster demo; remastered from the original master DAT tape.

Thy Infernal - Satan's Wrath [Demo 1997]

Thy Infernal started in 1996, and lasted into the early 2000s playing straight up black metal.  You won't find any keyboard harmonies on this demo.  Just blast beats and Satan.

Notably, Thy Infernal had Armageddon handling the bass and vocal duties.  He has also spent time in such bands as Engorged, Lord Gore, Warhate and is currently in Ritual Necromancy.

All four of these tracks would later be re-recorded for the Satan's Wrath full length in 1999 on Moribund Records, but here they are in their original glory.

Sloth Zine #1

The first issue of Sloth Zine, which was done by Zack Phillips of Sputnik.  I don't see a date anywhere, but judging by the PDX punk news in the back, I would guess it was early 1997.

Snapcase / Turmoil [1997]

1997 -  This show was the first time that either Snapcase or Turmoil had played Portland.  Snapcase were touring for the Progression Through Unlearning LP on Victory and Turmoil had just put out the Anchor EP on Century Media.  At this point, Backside Disaster had recorded a demo, but it never got released, and they recorded a second demo a little later in the year to serve as their first release.

Suburbia didn't last very long with doing shows, although they are still open solely as band practice rooms, which always existed upstairs in conjunction with the venue.  At one point in time, Pig Champion and Dave Dictor were roommates within Suburbia.
