Nero's Rome - Labor [1989]

A bit of a departure for this blog, but I had a request recently to convert this cassette to digital, so here we are. Nero's Rome picked up some steam in the early 90s with a sound reminiscent of perhaps Mudhoney, but this earlier release has much more of an INXS vibe. A quick Google search will lead you to YouTube videos of their later releases, and brief breakdowns of the band history, including a later period with Thee Slayer Hippy on drums.

Sweaty Nipples - What's Your Funktion? [demo 1989]

As of a few days ago, it has now been 25 years since Sweaty Nipples recorded their What's Your Funktion? demo tape.  Many people called them funk-metal or funk-punk, but I think a big part of the fun with a band like Sweaty Nipples was that they didn't really fit into any sort of a box.  They were able to crossover with lots of people that were into varied sounds, and that's a big part of what made their shows at La Luna in the early 90s so much fun.

Of course, they would later go on to release records through Media Blitz, Tim/Kerr, Megaforce and Element, but this is where they started.

Demise - Full Discography

I was recently able to get my hands on three master DAT tapes of Demise.  After converting them, I spent some time doing some remasters, and given the source, I think these will be the best sounding Demise recordings out there.  The master for the very first demo only exists on a 2" reel, so that's the only one that is still converted from a standard cassette tape.  That being said, here's the full discography for Demise [1989 - 1994]

 Demise - Endless Torment
[demo 1989]

 Demise - Inevitable Exit
[demo 1990]

 Demise - Devious Deception 7"
[Listenable Records - 1992]

Unfortunately, I've yet to come across a physical copy of Sadistic Summoning, so I had to roll with the only picture I have.  If someone out there has a copy, please get in touch.

Bad Habbit - Overdose [demo 1989]

Bad Habbit (the intentional misspelling supposedly stood for Beers and Buds) popped up out of the Parkrose area, and this demo, "Overdose", from 1989 presents five tracks of thrash metal that also have some elements of traditional heavy metal.  One of the things I find most interesting about this demo is that it was recorded in the KGON studios, and was cleverly produced by someone named Buck Futts.
I'm not sure if all copies had this issue, but the labels on my tape were reversed.  Side 1 label was on side 2 and vice versa.  The labels also contained a nice statement of caution that the recording contains the word "fuck".

The inlay mentions that people should be on the lookout for an upcoming Bad Habbit LP titled "Just Say Yes".  I spent some time trying to track down contact info on the internet for the band members, but came up empty in my quest to find out what happened with that planned LP.  Did the band break up before it could come to fruition, or did it get recorded prior to a break up and there's a reel just collecting dust somewhere?
I'm not sure if any of these guys are still playing music today, but Bill Brewer went on to play in Arachnid, and Marq Lawler spent some time in Anger Management.
