National Guard - Demo 1995

National Guard - the best thing to ever come out of David Douglas High School?  Undoubtedly.  These guys were my entrance into the local hardcore punk scene, and were some of the first people that I made friends with outside my shitty world of Centennial High School.

Here's their first demo from 1995 - remastered from the master DAT tape.

Angry Samoans / Youth Of Today

It's really pretty hard to imagine Angry Samoans and Youth Of Today playing on the same show, but it happened in 1987 at Satyricon.

Oily Bloodmen - Telephone Wire [Demo 1988]

Oily Bloodmen spent a decent chunk of years (1984 - 1992) in various Portland nightclubs, honing a hardcore punk sound that had unique tinges of funk and country buried just below the surface.

This is there Telephone Wire demo from 1988.  At this point in time, Dean Johnson of Poison Idea fame had joined them on drums.

Also, here's a site that has some mp3 rips of Oily Bloodmen's 1987 demo - Old Men Have To Talk Tough along with a few photos.
Unfortunately, in 1998 and 2001, two co-founding members of Oily Bloodmen in Dale Moerer and Rich Rosemus died of drug overdoses.

AM Northwest - Punk Segment [1981]

Here's a short segment about Portland punk on AM Northwest from 1981.  Towards the end, you get to see a young Fred Cole (The Rats/Dead Moon) call out Buck Munger from Two Louies magazine for not reviewing their records.

Bodybag - Severed Existence [demo 1993]

Bodybag had a pretty good output during their five or so years together.  They recorded five demos and shared the stage with the likes of Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Dismember, Kreator and many more.  At one point, they were supposed to be reaching a deal for a 7" on Grind Core Records, but that never came to fruition.
Bass player, CJ Mikiten, was also in Savior, and the Bodybag logo and cover art for this demo were drawn by Dexter from Demise.

Check out that sick Savior shirt on Eric.  I want one!
This is Bodybag's second demo, which came out in 1993.  Titled "Severed Existence", the copy that I have actually has a spelling error in the title, but they must have realized that, because I've seen pictures of another version with the corrected spelling.

Poison Idea - Kings Of Punk [Portland Edition]

As if there could have been doubt in anyone's mind, this aptly titled record definitely solidified Poison Idea as the "Kings Of Punk".  They had started to incorporate more melody alongside their breakneck speed, which truly gave them a sound unmatched by others.

The album was released by Pushead's label, Pusmort, and as a nice bonus, there was a Portland Edition.  Here is a breakdown of the contents:

Now here is where things get interesting.  A special Portland Edition poster was included, and over the years, I have always heard that there were 100 of these made.

Not included in the original package was this lyric booklet.  A note on the Portland Edition poster stated that, if desired, one could obtain the lyrics by writing to Jerry, and he would mail them this xeroxed booklet with the LP's lyrics.  I've heard an exceptionally wide range of numbers over the years that go anywhere from 35 to 75 copies of the lyric booklet got into circulation.
Below the lyric booklet cover is a mediafire link to a PDF file of the entire booklet.  I also watermarked the pages to prevent any bootleggers from potentially becoming millionaires (see what I did there?).

Sloth Zine #1

The first issue of Sloth Zine, which was done by Zack Phillips of Sputnik.  I don't see a date anywhere, but judging by the PDX punk news in the back, I would guess it was early 1997.

Savior / Dickfinger - The Face Of Adversity [1990 demo]

This demo is a nice two-for-one deal.  Side A has three tracks of great thrash metal from Savior, and side B has six tracks of crossover from a Savior side project called Dickfinger, including a GG Allin cover.  I hit up Jeff Walter, who played guitar for Savior, and he said that Dickfinger was made up of the same members as Savior, and was something they had been messing around with since '86 or '87, which includes an unreleased demo called "When We're Drunk, We're Punk".  Jeff also currently plays in Poison Idea and Shock Troops.

Savior also had six other cassette releases, and Dickfinger had a split 7" with Naked Violence; all of which I'm still trying to track down.

Snapcase / Turmoil [1997]

1997 -  This show was the first time that either Snapcase or Turmoil had played Portland.  Snapcase were touring for the Progression Through Unlearning LP on Victory and Turmoil had just put out the Anchor EP on Century Media.  At this point, Backside Disaster had recorded a demo, but it never got released, and they recorded a second demo a little later in the year to serve as their first release.
Suburbia didn't last very long with doing shows, although they are still open solely as band practice rooms, which always existed upstairs in conjunction with the venue.  At one point in time, Pig Champion and Dave Dictor were roommates within Suburbia.

Speed Weenie - Demo 1987

I always heard the name, Speed Weenie, tossed around when I was younger.  In school, I knew a kid who always claimed that his older brother used to hang out at the Death House, and we would talk about how cool that place must have been and how we wished it was still around for us to thrash around at.  Over the years, it seems as if Speed Weenie is one of the band names that became synonymous with the Death House, but aside from the folklore I picked up from other people my age that missed the boat on Speed Weenie by a couple of years, information seems to be scarce.  Try to do a google search for Speed Weenie, and you'll be met with pretty much nothing but Urban Dictionary entries.

For those unaware, Speed Weenie played some blazing speed metal with a bit of a crossover vibe.

Here is their studio demo from 1987.  I'm not sure if there was ever a cover, but my tape doesn't have one, so you get a scan of the actual tape instead.

Speed Weenie - Studio Demo 6/1/87

I also have a 1989 demo tape that will eventually make its way up here, but I have no clue if they released anything else.  However, I do know that Speed Weenie's singer, Aaron Rider, also sang for Shitfinger, and their drummer, Jeff Roper-Witt, later played drums in Wreck Creation.
